DOTHAN HOUSING PARTNERS & PRESERVES AFFORDABLE HOUSING

DOTHAN HOUSING PARTNERS AND PRESERVES AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN THE CITY OF DOTHAN AT THE CAPSTONE AT KINSEY COVE

RENOVATION TO PROVIDE 212 MODERN, HIGH-QUALITY AFFORDABLE HOMES TO DOTHAN RESIDENTS

DOTHAN, AL -  In a time when affordable housing is hard to find, Dothan Housing works to preserve viable options for low-income families, seniors, and disabled Dothan residents. Dothan Housing, along with Hollyhand Construction, Banyan Foundation, Alabama Housing, and Finance Authority, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and others hosted a Hard Hat Celebration on-site to publicly mark the preservation and rehabilitation of Kinsey Cove, the property formerly known as Johnson Homes on the morning of June 23rd. This will mark the fourth Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Project-Based Voucher (PBV) asset repositioning conversion for Dothan Housing.

The Capstone at Kinsey Cove is one of the largest redevelopment efforts currently in progress in the state of Alabama that is located at 1121 Kinsey Road Dothan, AL 36303.  The development is being completely renovated and modernized to provide 212 high-quality, affordable housing units.  The majority of the existing residents will return to the building upon completion of the renovations.

"Our top priority is to preserve affordable housing in Dothan," said Sam Crawford, CEO of Dothan Housing. "This is made possible through the collaboration and commitment of strategically aligned public-private partnerships, just as we have with Kinsey Cove."

David Jamison, chairman of the Dothan Board of Commissioners, said, "The board is so proud of the work Samuel P. Crawford and the Dothan Housing staff have done to make this project a reality. In order to expand affordable housing options in the City of Dothan, we have to ensure that we maintain what we already have."

"This development project has been in the works for a couple of years, and we are excited to partner with Dothan Housing to preserve affordable housing and provide holistic neighborhood revitalization in this area by transforming Johnson Homes to the Capstone at Kinsey Cove," said Rob Coats, president, and CEO of the Banyan Foundation.

During renovations, residents will be relocated to other affordable housing with the option to return upon renovation completion. Renovations are expected to be completed by December 2022.
